Jimmy Kimmel sketch shows Facebook’s virtual reality future
When Facebook purchased Oculus VR in March 2014 for $2 billion, it became obvious that the Oculus Rift headset would potentially be used for purposes other than gaming. It’s likely that Mark Zuckerberg intends to create a 3D VR interpretation of the popular social media network for use with Oculus Rift in order to truly immerse users in its online environment.
In a recent Jimmy Kimmel sketch, this potential outcome is demonstrated in all of its bizarre and obnoxious glory with virtual 3D avatars of Jimmy’s Facebook friends ceaselessly harassing him with their narcissistic and esoteric updates in a manner similar to the random and overly frenetic pace of random content one experiences on a Facebook feed. Check out the Jimmy Kimmel Live! video to see just how Facebook might look in this simulated VR future.
