This week, IFA Berlin has certainly captured the consumer zeitgeist with a smattering of new ultrabooks, tablets and smartphones making their debuts. In a welcome break from the norm, Lenovo has brought us a 15-inch Ultrabook called the IdeaPad U510, which provides a 1366 x 768 resolution display, the latest Core i7 Ivy Bridge processors from Intel and Windows 8. RAM can be cranked up to an ample 8GB and storage options begin at 500GB and can be increased to 1TB.

A chicklet keyboard and all-in-one trackpad come as standard. I/O connectivity includes USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, VGA, HDMI and memory card expansion. Weighing in a 4.85 pounds and measuring just 0.83 inches thick, the IdeaPad U510 somehow manages to cram a DVD / Blu-ray drive in to its diminutive frame. With 6 hours of battery life and starting price tag of $679 for the entry-level model, this could be an excellent choice for users looking for the convenience of an Ultrabook with the screen size of a more traditional laptop. The Lenovo 15-inch IdeaPad U510 is expected to launch in september.
