I’ve been meaning to get a review of iOS for the iPhone done for some time. With college and other commitments I haven’t had the chance. Thankfully this weekend I’ve managed to finally upload a review video to YouTube and Dailymotion outlining my experiences with Apple’s latest release of their popular mobile operating system. It’s running surprisingly well on my legacy iPhone 3GS and despite the fact that a few features are missing due to the older hardware I believe it’s a vast improvement. Performance remains snappy although photo editing and Newsstand could be quicker. The new Notifications system works great. The quick launch feature for the camera is a welcome addition along with reminders and Wi-Fi-based iMessage. iOS 5 is a free update available for the 3rd and 4th generations of the iPod Touch, the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 and the iPad 1 and 2. It comes preinstalled on the brand new iPhone 4S, which was officially released on October 14th in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy and Japan and is due to launch in 22 other countries on October 28th. An iOS 5 feature unique to the iPhone 4S is ‘Siri’, a voice activated personal assistant application.
