Acer have introduced their new Aspire Ethos notebooks to North America at a starting price of $1,200. Targeted at the entertainment and gaming consumer these multimedia driven laptops are sure to impress with a comprehensive range of features and solid build quality. First up is the AS5951G, which is a 15.6-inch notebook with a display resolution of 1366 x 768 comprised of Corning Gorilla Glass. Blu-Ray is optional and theres also a HDMI-out port. The AS5951G also boasts “True 5.1-channel surround sound output, two built in stereo speakers and the Acer Tuba CineBass booster.” The latest Core i5 and i7 CPUs from Intel offer up plenty of processing power. RAM can be maxed out to a staggering 16GB. The Nvidia Geforce GT 555M provides 2GB of video memory.
The bigger brother is the AS8951G with an 18.4-inch display at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Audio quality is taken up a notch thanks to the “five Dolby®-tuned built-in speakers and Acer Tuba CineBass subwoofer supporting low-frequency effects and vibrant audio”. Acer have also packed in some powerful and unique features that will ensure an immersive multimedia experience. “The Aspire Ethos can be fast-booted, allowing consumers to watch movies, play music and view photos at the touch of a button, without waiting for the entire PC to start up.” Furthermore the trackpad can be removed and used a remote control. “Consumers can control their music, movies, or a slide show from across the room. It includes LED buttons that launch music and videos, and can be used vertically or horizontally.” Storage options range from 500GB to 1.5TB and I/O includes USB 3.0, eSATA Combo, fingerprint reader and a 1.3MP HD Webcam.
