Continuing a recent trend of 17.3-inch desktop replacement gaming notebooks, MSI have stepped up with their new GX780 series, which features the latest gen Sandy Bridge Intel Core i7-2630QM processor at a clock speed of 2.0GHz with up to 16GB of RAM. The discrete graphics processing is supplied by the Nvidia GeForce GT 555M, which offers 1GB of onboard video memory. The display resolutions range from 1600 x 900 or 1920 x 1080p. The GX780 has certainly been made with ardent gamers in mind and this is clearly demonstrated by the uniquely designed keyboard. Users can hold down as many as 10 keys simultaneously. To ensure that you don’t accidentally hit the Windows key while playing, MSI have moved it to the right hand side and added a Function key in it’s place. The ALT and Ctrl keys have also been increased in size. Whats more the LED backlit SteelSeries keyboard offers 30 color options which should provide a nice customizable light show for when your gaming in the dark.
As for the remaining hardware specs the GX780 provides a maximum hard drive storage capacity of 1.5TB but entry level options begin at 320GB. Theres also Blu-ray support, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, multi-card reader, two USB 3 ports, three USB 2.0 ports, along with an eSATA port, HD webcam, HDMI output and a 9-Cell Battery. No fully pimped out entertainment gaming notebook would be complete without a state of the art audio system. Thankfully MSI have pulled out all the stops and teamed with Creative and Dynaudio to provide Dynaudio and THX TruStudio Pro audio quality. The GX780 will come preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Premium. What MSI have done here is produce a no-holds-barred gaming behemoth with serious power inside and they’ve built a chassis to match. It features a range of unique design functions to provide a luxurious user experience designed to meet the needs of the most discerning gamer. Pricing and launch details have not yet been announced.
