Adding to the ultra-portable notebook market with a rough and tumble mobile PC, Toshiba is now taking pre-orders for their new Portege R835 series. This ThinkPad-esque luxury laptop offers plenty of expandability, convenience and durability in a slim 13.3 inch form factor. It features an LED Backlit display at a resolution of 1366 x 768 featuring an Intel Sandy Bridge Core i3 CPU with integrated GPU, 4GB of Ram, 640GB  of storage, DVD Drive, Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 3 and webcam along with a memory card reader, 1 USB 3 port, HDMI out with battery life of approximately 9 hours.

The chassis features a magnesium enclosure with a honeycomb rib structure for improved durability along with shock-absorbing capabilities. Put simply, this thing can take a knock or two. The Portege R835 comes preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Premium for $899. Personally I find myself impressed by it’s competitive price point, feature rich design and build quality. Keep an eye out for this one in 2011.

  1. Magnesium enclosure eh? hell at least you can use it as a fire starter. or its probably more like magnalium. i’m not too knowledgeable with magnesium as industrial uses but if it works, hey whatever, better than the cheap plastic they’re made of now. though i havent actually had any problems with toshiba plastics. i have had many problems with acer’s aspire series.
