Farewell: Steve Ballmer departs Microsoft Board of Directors

This week, former ormer Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer officially cut his remaining ties with Microsoft by stepping down as a board of directors member. His motivation for doing this was due to his growing number of extracurricular commitments.

It’s the end of an era, Ballmer send a public message to new CEO Satya Nadella, outlining how it would be impractical for him to continue on the board. He expressed his love of Microsoft and celebrated his 34 years of being in the organisation. He vowed to continue to support Microsoft from afar.

Ballmer announced his plans to retire as CEO from the Redmond tech giant this time last year. Several months later,  Satya Nadella was officially installed as replacement CEO back in February in 2014.

In May of this year, Ballmer purchased the Basketball team the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers. Ballmer handed out a record $2 billion for the franchise, which represents 10% of their total net value.

In Nadella public reply to Ballmer’s message, he thanked him all of the positivity and support he provided during the hand over and for his commitment to Microsoft for the past 34 years. He stated that he understood his decision and said that his influence would be greatly missed.
