I’m beginning to wonder when was the last time any manufacturer released a normal notebook that wasn’t an Ultrabook. Anyway this new 13.3-inch machine from Acer is called the Aspire S5. What makes it a unique prospect from a PC perspective is the fact that it features a ThunderBolt port. The chassis is composed of a brushed magnesium-aluminum construction that provides a sturdy and lightweight design. It measures just 15mm at its thickest point and less than 3 pounds in weight.
The specs are pretty standard fair for today’s modern Ultrabooks. The CPU is an Ivy Bridge Core i7-3517U at 1.9GHz with turboboost up to 3.0Ghz. RAM starts at 4GB and storage begins with a 256GB solid state drive. Your data can also be backed up via unlimited cloud storage thanks to the included AcerCloud service. USB 3.0 and HDMI round out the I/O ports. Battery life will provide you a solid 6.5 hours of runtime. The starting price for the Aspire S5 is $1,400.
